The JVP launched an island wide poster campaign against the imprisonment of former Army Commander and DNA Leader Sarath Fonseka following the implementation of the verdict of the second court martial.
The posters condemning Fonseka’s imprisonment and calling for his immediate release were put up in all major cities in the country.
However, the JVP media unit said the poster campaign was allegedly blocked by the police in several cities.
According to the JVP, posters in Hanwella, Avissawella, Maharagama, Borella, and Wellampitiya were allegedly confiscated and torn off by the police.
Several JVP members who were putting up posters in these areas and a three wheeler that was transporting the posters have also been taken into police custody.
The JVP issuing a statement condemned the actions of the police and alleged that the police force was acting according to the government’s agenda.
