All grants required to develop roads will be provided – President

Oct 2, 2010 12:58:22 PM - itnnews.lk

President Rajapaksa has said that the Government is prepared to extend all grants required to improve the road network in the country. He emphasized that the officials should be responsible in untilising funds for the benefit of the people.

He pointed out that he would make all allocations required for the development of roads. What is required is not who handles the work, but the development of the roads. No one should be disturbed. He told the meeting that the roads should be developed and the required standard should be there. If not, the official responsible will have to repay. The President emphasized that his intention was to develop the roads suitably so that these could be used for the next 15 to 20 years.

President Rajapaksa was addressing the Polonnaruwa District Development progress review meeting. He gave instructions to officials to take immediate action to overcome the damage caused by illegal sand mining in the District. He also advised the officials to take appropriate and urgent action for the immediate resolution of the many problems of the people. The Government is incurring a colossal expenditure on education. Under such circumstances, the President emphatically stated that officials should adopt action to direct to education non-school going children within the District.

Speaking further the President instructed Local Government heads, its members and Government officials to make a concerted effort to consider the programme needed to direct non-school going children in the Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura Districts to education. He underscored that all children should attend school. There is a problem whether the technical college established in Polonnaruwa was being utilized to the maximum. He told all politicos and officials to craft a programme and direct the children to these educational institutions.

Many legislators, politicians of the North Central Province and administrative officials attended this progress review meeting.
