The removal of mine in more areas in the North has entered the final phase.
De-mining in the Iranamadu and Akkarayankulam areas for the quick resettlement of the displaced is now continuing at a rapid pace. Around 1000 Engineers of the Army are engaged in operations for the removal of mines planted by the LTTE terrorists in the Wanni. About 30 modern machines procured by the Government with foreign assistance is being used for the removal of mines. The Government is optimistic that the displaced could soon be resettled in their villages once the de-mining process draws to a close.
