Foreign members of the Maha Sangha have given their assurance for the Buddhist renaissance programme planned on the sidelines of the Sambuddha Jayanthi.
Members of the Maha Sangha, including Mahanayake Theras of about 10 countries met Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne. Their discussions centred at length on the programmes mooted for the propagation of the Dhamma in the country as well as abroad on behalf of the 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi. The foreign monks assured full support including financial sponsorship that will be required. There is a need to launch the foreign dhamma mission service more strongly than before. Attention was adverted at the discussion in this respect. Foreign Buddhist monks from many countries including the United States, Britain, Japan, Canada, Sweden and India are on a visit to the island.
