The water level of the Kaluganga and the Kelani River is further rising as a result of torrential rains.
The Irrigation Department said that the water level of the Kaluganga at Ellagawa and Putupawula and water guage at Millakanda of the Kuda ganga, a branch of the Kaluganga are rising. The water level at Millakanda has reached a minor flood mark. In the meantime the water guage of the Kelani Ganga at Nagalagam Street has surpassed four metres. The Irrigation Department has urged the public to be vigilant as the water levels of other rivers may also reach the danger zone.
