Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has said that Sri Lanka has every reason and inducement to her interest to ensure that the peace achieved after two long decades of war become sustainable.
The Minister made this reference when he discussed Sri Lanka’s post war moments with Dr. Jamie Metzi of the Asia Society in New York. The Minister was speaking on the topic “Sri Lanka – the way forward towards sustainable peace.” Further airing his views, the Minister said that the government does not believe that a military victory will provide sustainable peace. He said that it has to enhanced by other initiatives. He said that economic dimension is a main element. The government is making a special effort to reach the diaspora, telling them that the government wants them to be engaged in rebuilding those parts of the country which have paid a heavy price during the last 20 years. He said that the hotel sector is being rebuilt. This year the country is expected to have the largest number of tourists on record.
