The two women killed when the car they were riding in crashed into an ambulance in Newberry County were Presbyterian College students.
Lea Kraemer, 22, and Sarah Doelker, 23, both of Germany, died Friday in the accident, the Newberry Coroners Office said Sunday night.
Kraemer died at the scene, and Doelker later at the hospital, both of blunt force trauma, the coroners office said. Both were wearing seat belts.
The accident happened around 9:20 p.m. Friday on U.S. 76, a little more than seven miles west of Newberry, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The 2008 Volkswagen Jetta they were riding in crashed into an ambulance that had its lights and siren on. The driver of the Jetta, Caroline Smith, 20, of Pawleys Island, had moved onto the right shoulder to let the ambulance pass, the Highway Patrol said, but the car returned to the road before the ambulance could pass and the two vehicles collided.
