Several shops have been damaged in the Watawala town due to a landslide which occurred at around 9.30 p.m. yesterday. A number of accidents have so far been reported due to torrential rains in the central hills.
Our reporter in the area said that the bus stand and a number of shops had been damaged due to the landslide. Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri said that sluice gates of Lakshapana and Canyon have been opened.
Meanwhile train services have been curtailed on Colombo Gampola and Badulla Up Country rail track as a rock had slipped on to the rail track between Gampola and Nawalapitiya.
