Messages marking World Habitat Day

Oct 4, 2010 4:55:51 AM - itnnews.lk

The aim of the Government is to beautify not only the cities but the lives of people who live in the cities. President Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed this view in his message issued on the World Habitat Day.

The President said that through the Housing Schemes that come under the “Nagamu Purawara” Project, measures have been taken to benefit people living in houses with less facilities.

The World Habitat Day development Programme will be strengthened by steering the village as well as city towards an accelerated development process through the Mahinda Chinthana Extended Version. The President said that the Housing Project of one million houses will be launched to provide ownership of a house for every family.

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne in his message said that the country will launch the development programme next year to provide houses for one million families.

Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa in his message said that housing development projects have been launched not only in Colombo but also in other areas of the country including the North and East.
