President Rajapaksa has presided over a felicitation ceremony near the Sri Maha Bodhi to honour the parents who offered their children to Buddha Sasana.
Theravada Buddhism is preserved in the country due to the determination and commitment displayed by the Maha Sangha.
The felicitation function was organized to honour the parents of such monks who gifted their sons to the Buddha Sasana.
At the function held under the patronage of the President, 470 parents of monks who stayed in the North and East for more than three decades and acted with the sole purpose of protecting the nation were felicitated.
The function launched at the Sri Maha Bodhi, will be held on District level as well. Members of the Maha Sangha led by the Chief Incumbent of the Atamastana, the Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasa Thera, Chief Incumbent of the Vidyalankara Pirivena the Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and several Parliamentarians were present.
