Asst. Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippilly said that 599 families were impacted by the torrential rains experienced during the past two weeks. In all, the affected number was 2060. 10 deaths were reported. Six deaths occurred due to lightening. 11 houses were completely ravaged and 86 partially damaged. Disaster Management centres of all Districts along with the relevant Ministries were successfully coordinating the relief programme.
Meanwhile, the operation of trains on the hill country rail-track has resumed. Operations were paralysed as a result of a rock which had slipped on to the track between Peradeniya and Nawalapitiya. The incident resulted in obstructing trains running between Colombo and Badulla.
