More funds to develop the East – President

President Rajapaksa has said that he is prepared to extend maximum funds for the development of the Eastern Province with the purpose of enriching the livelihoods of the people.

The President said 89 Billion Rupees had been spent only for this Province. Such an expenditure had not been incurred on any other Province. He pointed out that he was prepared to allocate more funds to provide electricity to every village. This is what the Government desired. This electrification programme will be continued until every village in the Province gets electricity. The President said he solicited the support of every official at a time when such vast development was taking place in the region. They should serve for the benefit of the people sinking all political differences.

The President was addressing a meeting to review progress of the Eastern Province today. It was organized at the Trincomalee Naval Base. He pointed out that the highest allocation for development was made for the East. It was mainly because the innocent civilians were battered by terrorism. Language should not become an issue to any community in the resolution of their problems. Accordingly, the President emphatically stated that officials who are fluent in Sinhala and Tamil languages should be deployed to every office. A notable feature at this meeting was the necessary on-the-spot instructions given by the President to address many issues which had been directed by the Eastern fraternity.

The President who instructed that quick solution should be found to the housing problems of the people of the Province, made inquiries into the current progress in the region. In addition to many Parliamentarians, present on the occasion were the Governor and the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, the President’s Secretary, Ministry Secretaries and Government officials.
