The 33 people killed in 2009 in acts of domestic violence were remembered Tuesday in an annual ceremony on the steps of the State House.
One by one, the names of the 31 women and two men were called by Attorney General Henry McMaster as a bell tolled for each. McMaster briefly recounted the facts of their deaths and mourned in advance the next person who will be killed.
He called for a moment of silence for those victims of whom we are unaware.
The ceremony is part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in a state that historically has one of the countrys highest rates of partner-on-partner violence as well as incidents of men killing women.
