The Sri Lanka Government Nursing Officers Association (GNOA) yesterday held a protest outside the Colombo Hospital. The nurses were protesting doctor’s trade union objections to the proposed new service minutes system.
The Government Medical Officer’s Association (GMOA) said that a change of name from A Grade Nursing Officer to Nursing Superintendent would cause, among other things, neglect of medical recommendations. The GNOA disagreed, saying a simple name change would not cause the administrative problems foreseen by the GMOA.
The Health Ministry recently said a nursing services constitution would be implemented to address the problems faced by nurses.
