The President will be taking his second term oaths in November, Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma revealed in a press conference yesterday.
Further, the swearing in will take place in the city of Anuradapura, Alahapperuma said.
The ceremony has been planned to coincide with the launch of the first phase of the new Hambantota International Port. It is hoped that the first ship will be berthed at the port just before the oath taking ceremony.
Alahapperuma said that the President planned to make Sri Lanka the ‘Marvel of Asia’ in his second term. Massive development projects have been launched in several areas, the Hambantota International Port being one of them.
He added that the ceremony was particularly significant as this time the President was taking the oath to be the leader of the entire country.
“President Rajapaksa took oaths for his first term as executive President on November 19, 2005 at a time the writ of the government did not cover the whole country,” Alahapperuma said.
