Sarath Fonseka loses his Parliamentary seat. The Parliamentary Secretary General informs the Elections Commissioner to nominate a suitable person.
Sarath Fonseka has lost the opportunity of holding the parliamentary seat constitutionally along with the 30-month prison sentence handed down to him by the Court Martial. Accordingly, the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament has intimated to the Elections Commissioner to nominate the person who should fill the vacancy. A spokesman for the Elections Secretariat said that it had received such a missive this afternoon. A gazette notification is due to be issued after the Elections Chief nominates a person to fill the vacancy.
