A programme to strengthen low income families

Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena has said that the Government has launched a programme to strengthen low income families in the area.

The Deputy Minister said that the rural areas are being developed under the Gama Neguma and Maga Neguma programmes. He said that a large amount of money was allocated to develop the rural areas. A livelihood programme will be launched next to improve peoples’ economy through self employment. He said that the Government was engaged in a war for four years. In the meantime the villages were developed, infrastructure facilities were provided and electricity was supplied to the rural areas. Now the Government is attempting to improve the economic status of every family.

The Deputy Minister made this statement when he participated in the inauguration of several development projects in Hakmana area. The Deputy Minister also launched renovation work of several roads.
