The tourism industry is booming. The number of tourist arrivals to the country has increased by 36 percent.
Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that total; arrivals last month stood at over 55 thousand 800. Addressing newsmen today, he said that this is an increase of 36 percent when compared with the corresponding period last year. The Minister revealed that 123 hotels will be constructed in the Pasikudah, Kuchchaveli and Kalpitiya areas. 14 islands have been selected from the Kalpitiya area for the development of the tourism industry. 4000 rooms will be built to strengthen the industry in the future. Necessary arrangements are being made to give a new look to the Airport after discussions with the Airports Authority.
