Sri Lanka and Iraq will go for a new programme to further expand economic ties.
The expansion of economic ties was the main topic that was discussed when Iraq’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka called on Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne. The meeting took place at the official residence of the Prime Minister. The Iraqi diplomat intimated to the Prime Minister that a deputation led by the Iraqi Trade Minister will soon visit Sri Lanka for the promotion of trade and commercial activities. He announced that arrangements are in place for the re-opening of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Iraq which had already been shut down. The Prime Minister said that there are many opportunities for Iraqi entrepreneurs to undertake investments in Sri Lanka.
