Relief to low income group to secure power

A programme has been unveiled to provide electricity to the low income group.

The “Viduli Athwela” programme is a joint effort by the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Samurdhi Authority. The related agreement was inked by Chairman of the Electricity Board Vidya Amarapala and Samurdhi Director General R.P.G. Thilakasiri today. Loans will be granted on a concessionary basis under this programme to secure power supplies. It is planned to recover the loan that will be given subject to a maximum of 30 thousand rupees, within 48 installments.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka revealed of their intention to craft a new relief programme soon for Small and Medium scale entrepreneurs to secure power. Minister Basil Rajapaksa also expressed his views on the occasion.

The granting of “Viduli Athwela” entitlement deeds to 21 selected families from the Avissawella and Homagama areas took place under the guidance of Minister Basil Rajapaksa. Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara was among those present.
