The hearing of the petition filed by Sarath Fonseka calling for declaration of the first Court Martial null and void has been postponed until the 15th of this month.
When the related case was taken up in the Appeals Court, Justice D.S.C. Lekamwasam, a member of the panel of judges announced that he was averse to getting involved in the hearing due to personal reasons. Appeals Court President Sathya Hettige ordered that accordingly the case will be taken up on the 15th of this month in the presence of a separate panel of judges. Sarath Fonseka has filed this petition calling to over rule the verdict given by the First Court Martial which stripped him of all military ranks that he held. The first Court Martial, probing charges against Sarath Fonseka’s participation in political work while in active service convicted him of all three charges.
