A petition is signed calling for the release of more than 500 soldiers imprisoned when Sarath Fonseka was serving as the Commander in Chief.
The inking of the petition commenced at Kiribathgoda today. The public gathered on the occasion said Sarath Fonseka received the sentence by the Court Martial for his fraudulent activities. They claimed that if he was to be released, soldiers imprisoned by the Court Martial, when Mr. Fonseka was serving as the Army Chief should also be granted freedom.
