Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has emphasized to the Opposition to enter into a practical process, if it was really interested in seeking the freedom of Sarath Fonseka, rather than being vociferous with the intention of achieving narrow political gains.
Expressing views in Parliament, the Prime Minister pointed out that he does not think that the JVP and theUNP were approaching the people in this issue. He queries as to why they cannot tell Sarath Fonseka to seek pardom from the President, although according to his conscience he had not committed irregularities. He also queried as to why they cannot refrain from resorting to such action. Why is the UNP and the JVP protesting throughout the country? The Prime Minister called on the Opposition Leader to intimate this to Mrs.Fonseka. Then, he added that the issue would be over.
