A Newberry County Sheriff's deputy was shaken up but not injured in a wreck as he pursued a suspect in a 100-mph chase.
The deputy, whom the sheriff's department did not name, met a suspect vehicle traveling 104 mph on Old Whitmire Highway in a 50mph zone near Folk Road a little after 3:30 a.m. Friday.
The deputy turned around to pursue the speeding car, the department said. During the pursuit, his back tire slid on loose gravel from a freshly patched pothole, causing him to lose control of the car. The deputy was not injured in the resulting wreck.
The deputies do not have a description of the suspect vehicle.
