Today is World Post Day. It is a special day in all Post Offices. The purpose of World Post Day is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector.
A ceremony to mark the event was held at the Apprenticeship Board’s Auditorium in Moratuwa. The release of a commemorative stamp of the five rupee denomination and a first day cover took place under the patronage of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne. The Prime Minister presented gifts to school children whose hobby is stamp collecting. Minister Jeevan Kumaratunge and Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake were present.
