It is planned to make separate allocations in the budget on behalf of cancer and kidney patients. Minister Maithripala Sirisena said he had made a request to make a separate allocation for cancer and kidney patients, in addition to the normal allocation made in the budget for the Health Service.
The Minister said that of the allocations made for medicinal drugs, the government had to incur a high expenditure on cancer and kidney patients. This is unbearable. Taking this situation into consideration, it is necessary to appraise the public about disease prevention. They had to be inculcated on the ill effects of smoking and narcotics. The Minister added that it is vital to launch a publicity campaign in this respect.
The Minister was addressing the Annual Conference of the Sri Lanka Laryngectomees Association at the Colombo National Hospital auditorium. Officials of the Health Ministry were present.
