President Rajapaksa has said that an era of establishing libraries even by shutting down Police Stations rather than setting up Police Stations closing down libraries is the need of the hour. The President said that attention should be drawn to the future of the younger generation at a time when speedy development was taking place in the country.
Addressing the Western Province Development Committee meeting, he pointed out that in future Police Stations should not be set up shutting down libraries. The need of the hour is libraries instead of Police Stations.
The meeting was organized at the Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya in Panadura. Attention was drawn at length at this meeting to the progress of development projects that are being launched in the Gampaha, Colombo and Kalutara Districts and the Schemes that are to implemented in the future under the Mahinda Chinthana. The President noted that Sri Lanka’s desire was to stage the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In order to prepare for the Games in a very successful atmosphere, he noted that the youth should be imparted the necessary training and their skills upgraded.
The President drew his dire attention to a number of regional development projects which had been launched in the Western Province haphazardly. He issued instructions to rectify them Many Parliamentarians as well as the Western Province Governor, the Chief Minister and Provincial Councillors attended this meeting.
