The residents of the East have stated before the Reconciliation Commission that they had to undergo suffering due to the mistakes committed by the UNP government and the LTTE.
The Presidential Commission on National Reconciliation resumed sittings at Ottamavadi in Batticaloa. A resident of the area and the President of the Independent Social Service Organization Y.L. Mansoor expressed this view, giving evidence before the Commission. He pointed out that the LTTE was free to carry out murders due to the so called agreement between the UNP and the LTTE. The Reconciliation Commission recorded evidence of 30 persons in the area.
