The Rs 75,000 loan granted to war heroes by the Army Welfare Director Board will be raised to Rs 300,000, Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya said.
He said arrangements are being made to grant it as a housing loan in the near future.
Liutenant General Jayasuriya was addressing the 61st Army anniversary celebrations held at the Army Headquarters Saturday. He said the President and the Defence Secretary have directed him to grant the 10 month special loan to soldiers.
The Rs 500,000 donation granted by the Army Additional Welfare Director Board for war heroes and disabled war heroes to buy lands and to build their houses will be continued further. He said a long term care centre named Ranaviru Arana for disabled war heroes is being constructed in Aththidiya. "I experienced the dedication and braveness of our soldiers at the battle field during the humanitarian operation. When I was appointed the Army Commander, I promised that I would commit for the soldiers’ welfare and would look after the disabled war heroes throughout their lifetime. At the first phase of the Brave Hearts project a luxurious and perfect care centre Abimansala will be opened in Anuradhapura shortly".
