Skeletal remains found in a rural Colleton County woods last week have been identified as a Dorchester County woman who disappeared in May after she was accused of stealing more than $134,000 from her former employer.
Colleton County Coroner Rich Harvey said Friday that dental records confirmed the remains were Andrea Stone, 36. Harvey declined to give a cause of death but said the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Dorchester County sheriffs investigators on June 23 charged Stone with two counts each of breach of trust and forgery after they reportedly found 63 incidents of forgery while she worked as the office manager at an auto title loan business in Summerville.
Stone was last seen at about noon May 10 at her Summerville area home. Her employer had called the sheriff May 4.
