Don’t permit to encroach land – President instructs officials

President Rajapaksa has emphasized that no one can be permitted to encroach land at a meeting in Chilaw, he advised officials to take direct action on such encroachers.

The President reminded the task vested in the holding of land Kachcheris to alienate land reasonably. But he queried as to what would be left for those who seek the legal path to get lands, if land ranging from 50 to 250 acres are encroached by others. As such he noted that no one can be permitted to acquire land in this manner. He reminded the responsibility vested in the Ministers and Parliamentarians in supporting the officials in carrying out their duties

The President was addressing the Northwestern Provincial Council’s progress review meeting in Chilaw today. Underlining that no buildings should be constructed without consolidating the ownership of the lands, the President pointed out that the final beneficiaries of all development schemes should be the ordinary masses. Maximum facilities should be given to children of very remote areas, while taking appropriate action to solve the shortage of teachers in the Puttalam District. The President issued instructions to take suitable initiatives in this respect. The President emphasized that the regional Police hierarchy should initiate optimum action to crackdown on the alcohol menace which severely impacts children and the youth generation. He stressed that the Police should draw their attention very strictly to overcome this situation.

The President drew his attention to many complaints which had been directed by the people related to problems in the area. He gave relevant instructions to address these problems. Parliamentarians, the Northwestern Governor and the Chief Minister, Provincial Councillors and senior Government officials were present.
