There has been a steady increase in local fish production. A growth has been reported in the first seven months of this year.
Production from January to July this year was 207 million Metric tons. Central Bank reports say that last year’s fish harvest was 186 million metric tons. The reports point out that an increase of 11% was recoded in fish production during the first seven months of the year.
The Central Bank reports point out that opening large stretches of the sea for fishing following the conflict and the concessions provided for the fisher folk by the present government have contributed towards this.
