Sunday Leader Editor Fredrica Jansz has said that at the last Presidential election, the newspaper supported Sarath Fonseka and not President Rajapaksa. She also revealed in Courts that the UNP footed the bill for additional prints of the newspaper during the Presidential polls.
The case related to the White Flag statement resumed in the Colombo High Court before a three judge trial at bar today. During cross examination by Nalin Ladduwahetti, the Attorney appearing on behalf of the prosecution, Fredrica Jansz reiterated today that Sarath Fonseka did not announce that a third party was aware of the contents related to the white flag statement during the first interview with her. It was first announced during a telephone conversation she had with him on the 12th of December. Pointing out that Sarath Fonseka did not deny the white flag statement on any occasion, the witness emphasized that he did not retract the statement when he spoke to her over the telephone. Further hearing will resume tomorrow.
