Chaminda Wijekoon did his best after suffering from a leg injury at the end of Monday’s first round and clocked three minutes 42.93 seconds and finished fourth in the men’s 1,500 metres final in front of a full house at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium yesterday evening.
Chaminda clocked a record time of three minutes 40.78 seconds in the first round but could not repeat the same yesterday. Chaminda was at the sixth slot with 200 metres prior to the finish line but came forward in the last 80 metres, surpassing the Kenyan Gideon Mwangi and Englishman Andrew Baddeley. But it was Kenya which won both gold and silver medals. Silas Kiplagat won the gold with a time of three minutes 41.78 seconds while James Kiplangat won the silver with three minutes 42.27 seconds.
