Lakshman Nipunarachchi fills the vacancy created after Sarath Fonseka lost his Parliamentary seat following his conviction by a military court.
The Department of Elections has gazetted the name of Lakshman Nipunaarchachi as the new Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Member of Parliament from the Colombo district. The Acting Secretary General of Parliament last week informed the Elections Commissioner that a vacancy has been created after Mr. Fonseka lost his seat following his imprisonment. Mr.Nipunaarachchi obtained the third highest preferential votes for the DNA in the Colombo district after Mr. Fonseka and MP Sunil Handunnetti. He was an MP from 2004 to 2010.
