President Rajapaksa has announced that the local cultivator should be encouraged by directing their attention towards the international market. He said sustainable development in the Agricultural sector is vital.
The President was addressing a meeting of the Food Security Committee at Temple Trees. Speaking further, the President pointed out that the Government had extended all facilities needed for agricultural research. He said more benefits can be passed on to the people by strengthening the Cooperative system. The production of capacity of agri crops such as maize and green gram increased within the last five years. A price hike of food commodities at the forthcoming festival season should be averted. The President issued instructions to moot a programme with the mediation of the Livestock Development Board for importing and distributing chicks and varieties of drugs needed among small entrepreneurs and farmers, who are not in a position to personally import them.
