Myrtle Beach to flash digital billboards

The lights will be a little brighter in Myrtle Beach now that the city council has approved digital billboards.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the city council approved the electronic signs Tuesday after months of discussion. Some opponents worried the billboards might make the town look more like Las Vegas.
The first billboards aren't expected to start flashing until next year. Sign companies will be required to remove two existing billboards in order to put up electronic one.
Councilman Phil Render was the only councilman voting against the plan, saying the billboards might distract drivers.
The ordinance only allows billboards to show still copy, with no animation.
