New look Colombo soon

The government’s aim is to convert the city of Colombo into a fully fledged city that would meet with international standards, Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said at the Cabinet media briefing yesterday.
“Under this initiative the Colombo city will receive a new face lift and be a more clean and neat city.” In line with these initiatives, the Urban Development Authority will construct houses with all facilities for shanty dwellers in the Colombo city. The Government will also provide them with better living standards, Minister Yapa added. “It is clear that the country could receive better returns by upgrading the living standards of people. People may become robbers or underworld figures when they are confined to shanties resulting .in unrest.”
