Canadian authorities will further detain a Tamil couple who is alleged to be the owner of the Sun Sea vessel.
The Canadian Government is continuing inquiries into the smuggling of about 492 Tamil nationals including LTTE suspects. During the investigations, it has been uncovered that the Tamil woman and her husband had changed names and lied about their identities to the Canadian authorities. Accordingly, the Canada Border Services Agency had made submissions in details against the Tamil woman and her husband. Taking into consideration these submissions, the Immigration and Refugees Board further detained the woman until the 10th of next month. Her husband in the meantime will continue to be detained until the first of next month.
