Sri Lankan and Indian leaders hold discussions further strengthening the neighbouring friendly ties.
President Rajapaksa who participated as the Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games met Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for discussions this morning. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in New Delhi. The talks drew attention to the continued implementation of the agreements reached during the President’s last tour of India. It is planned to complete half of the work on the construction of 50,000 houses built in the North and East with Indian assistance by next March.
The two leaders discussed its future activities. Views were exchanged on further strengthening cooperation in defence. In this context, the Indian Prime Minister referred to the massive development that was taking place in Sri Lanka with the enthronement of peace. He highly appreciated the government’s programmes in this context. The Indian Prime Minister hosted a lunch in honour of the Sri Lanka Leader. Present on the occasion was a group comprising Parliamentarians of both countries.
