UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has said that Sri Lanka has achieved a significant progress in achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDG’s).
Sri Lanka’s poverty stood at 26 percent in 1990. But in 2007, it declined to 15.2 percent. The UN Chief pointed out that the programmes implemented by the Sri Lankan Government for poverty alleviation were very much satisfactory. World Poverty Alleviation Day falls today. Issuing a message to mark the occasion, Ban Ki Moon said the onus is on every country to expand job opportunities for the youth.
