President Rajapaksa has emphasized to Public Officials and politicos that state establishments should utilize grants so that the masses read the maximum dividends.
The President said new Ports are coming up in the island. The required resources should be identified and the necessary training imparted. If anyone says that a harbour is coming up in Hambantota or in the Southern Province it is incorrect. He pointed out that the benefits of the projects will be enjoyed by the entire country. There should be a programme to pass on the benefits to the people of the area as well. In this respect, the Provincial Councils, the Local Bodies and the political leadership will have to play a responsible role.
The President presided at the Southern Province progress review meeting which perused the progress and issues of the development process. It was organized at the Weligama Urban Council Auditorium yesterday. The President emphasized that Funds utilized for development programmes should be spent so that the masses reap the maximum benefits of this process. Special attention should be directed in the development drive to problems related to infrastructure including sanitary services. Everyone should extend support to the Police to overcome the drug menace. President Rajapaksa underscored the need to improve the standard of education for the purpose of empowering the future generation.
