The Police operation to crackdown on narcotics is being successfully carried forward. Narcotics have been seized from many parts of the country.
The President issued instructions to the Police Chief to adopt all possible initiative to save the posterity from the drugs menace for the successful implementation of the “Mathata Thita” programme. Accordingly raids are being carried out countrywide. It was last evening that the Police succeeded in rounding up two suspects along with a consignment of narcotics used for the production of “Babul”. The raid was carried out at Second Cross Street in Pettah. Its market value was about 250 thousand rupees. The drugs were tactfully packed in fake trade marks. These had been smuggled in from countries such as India and Pakistan.
In the meantime, another stock of narcotics which were slated to be sold among school children was seized from Galle. Two suspects were also nabbed. The Galle Police conducted the raid. The market centre had been in operation near Olcott College at Weliwatte. The suspects were to be produced in the Galle Magistrate’s Court.
