South Korea has pledged its fullest support to Sri Lanka’s development efforts.
This assurance was given when Minister Basil Rajapaksa called on the South Korean Prime Minister. He was confident that Sri Lanka would gain prosperity soon under the able leadership of President Rajapaksa after ending the war. Furthermore the Korean Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Rajapaksa to visit Korea. At the discussion, the Korean Minister of Strategy and Finance agreed to increase the current level of Overseas Development Assistance that has been extended to Sri Lanka by the Korean Government.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa visited Korea to donate two elephants to the friendly country. He handed over the two baby elephants to the Seoul Metropolitan City Authority at a grand ceremony at the Seoul Zoo. The donation earned wide publicity and goodwill about Sri Lanka among the Koreans.
