Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne presented the Appropriation Bill for 2011 in Parliament this afternoon. The highest allocation has been made for national security.
According to the Bill, the total Government expenditure is over 1080 Billion Rupees. This time too, the highest allocation has been made by the Government for state defence. It is more than 215.21 Billion Rupees. The capital expenditure exceeds 129.71 Billion Rupees. The estimated expenditure for Health is more than 62.25 Billion Rupees. It includes recurrent as well as capital expenditure. The allocation for Economic Development amounts to over 75.24 Billion Rupees. More than 1.74 Billion Rupees has been set aside for resettlement as the process has reached the final stage. The budget for next year is scheduled to be presented in Parliament on the 22nd of next month. Thereafter the budget debate will begin. Voting on the 3rd Reading of the Budget is scheduled to take place on the 10th of December.
