The Child Protection Authority has decided to appoint a special committee to control child abuse. Chairperson of the authority Attorney Anoma Dissanayake said that they would specially look into whether the existing laws are sufficient to deal with cases of child abuse.
She said that the Child Protection Authority has decided to appoint a sub committee to advice the government in introducing new laws or effecting amendments to the existing laws in case of any shortcomings to prevent child abuse and harassment.
She said that the Child Protection Authority was set up under Act No. 50 of 1998. The Sub Committee will look into whether any amendments are required to the act under the existing conditions. She said that the Sub Committee will seek advice from intellectuals in this connection to provide advice to the Government in formulating laws.
