The government told parliament today (20) that it has recovered 110 kilos of gold and jewelry from the LTTE areas after the war.
Chief Government Whip, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said the government is in the process of handing over some 110 kilograms of gold seized from the LTTE to the Central Bank.
Gunawardena made this statement in response to a question posed by UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera on the gold and jewelry recovered by the security forces from the LTTE.
According to the Minister, the gold that was found by troops of the 58 Task Force and the military police is valued at over Rs. 490 million.
When questioned as to what the minister meant by saying it was in the “process of being handed over,” Gunawardena said that it has to be done in proper order. He said the gold and jewelry cannot be handed by putting them in gunny bags.
