The Attorney General intimates to the Appeals Court that he cannot give a pledge that another person would not be appointed to replace Sarath Fonseka’s Parliamentary seat.
The writ application by Sarath Fonseka seeking a stay order against the vacation of his Parliamentary seat was taken up for hearing today. Deputy Solicitor General Farzana Jameel made the intimation to Courts on behalf of the Attorney General. A vacant Parliamentary seat is being filled according to the Constitution. As such she said that a pledge cannot be given that such a process could be suspended. Further hearing was postponed for tomorrow. Submissions are due to be made on behalf of the Government tomorrow.
