The compensation programme for the war affected people in the North will be accelerated. Minister Dew Gunasekera said that compensation will be paid for 500 families under the programme from next week.
The Minister said that the special programme will be launched on the in Jaffna and Kilinochichi tomorrow and the day after. He said that compensation for the war affected and funds for building houses will be offered. A loan scheme will also be introduced. Loans will be granted for self employment under a micro-finance programme at an interest rate of four percent for the people at the grass root level.
Addressing the media in Colombo the Minister said owners of 100 damaged houses in the Jaffna district will be offered 100 thousand rupees each. In reply to a question from a journalist the Minister said the Prisons Act will also be amended.
