The government today (21) presented two bills in parliament to amend the laws on local government elections.
The bills were the Local Authorities (Special Provisions) Bill and the Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Bill. Leader of the House, Minster Nimal Siripala de Silva, presented them in parliament.
These bills will amend the Municipal Councils Ordinance, the Urban Councils Ordinance and the Pradeshiya Sabha Act.
The bills will also introduce a new system to elect members to local government bodies through the amendments to the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance.
